Why is a dispersant used for carbon black?

Carbon black dispersion has always been a problem when using carbon black, but many manufacturers have not solved it well, leading to the phenomenon of thickening. This is mainly due to poor dispersion of carbon black, and dispersants for carbon black were therefore developed. However, carbon black dispersants are not only used to prevent thickening.

  Functions of carbon black dispersants:

  Enhancing gloss and leveling effects

  Preventing floating color and blooming

Improving the ability to disperse carbon black, which is also a common function of carbon black dispersants

Reducing viscosity and increasing pigment loading

  Reducing agglomeration

  Increasing storage stability

Improving color development and increasing color saturation

Increasing transparency (for organic pigments) or opacity (for inorganic pigments)

Through the above content, it can be seen that carbon black dispersants have significant effects. Some carbon black manufacturers even mix carbon black with dispersants to improve the dispersion of carbon black before selling it. However, it should be noted that there are many types of carbon black dispersants, and the effects of different dispersants on carbon black are not the same. Therefore, it is important to choose carefully."
