According to Rubber & Plastics News, Continental Carbon Co. (CCC), a subsidiary of Taiwan's China Synthetic Rubber Corporation (CSRC), has recently received ISCC Plus certification for its plants located in Phenix City, Alabama, and Sunray, Texas. In a press release on August 20, the company stated, "This certification further reinforces our commitment to improving the environmental footprint of our products and helping our customers achieve their sustainability goals. This achievement is part of our ongoing efforts in sustainability, especially following the recent announcement of our new joint venture."

The Phenix City plant has served as CCC's production base for tire tread-grade carbon black since the early 1980s but is set to be permanently closed in December 2023. In May of this year, CCC collaborated with Eco Infinic Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Taiwan's Sheico Group, to establish a joint venture to build a waste tire recycling carbon black (rCB) plant at the former site of the Phenix plant, with plans to commence production in 2026. According to CSRC, this new facility will be one of the largest tire pyrolysis plants in North America, with an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons of rCB, 35,000 tons of tire pyrolysis oil (TPO), and 2,300 tons of steel wire.
