The relationship between antistatic carbon black and conductive carbon black

  Anti-static carbon black is actually one of the functions of conductive carbon black, and the anti-static effect can be achieved by adding it properly.

  Principle:

  Disperse conductive carbon black in the matrix of polymer materials to form ribs or mesh pathways to conduct electricity so that the product has antistatic ability, and at the same time increase the resistivity of the product to achieve the antistatic effect.

  Factors affecting the anti-static effect:

  1. Types of carbon black: Carbon black with high electrical conductivity has the characteristics of high surface area, high structure, and low volatility. In order to obtain excellent antistatic ability, it is necessary to choose a stable structure, not easy to oxidize, and easy to form a conductive path in the polymer.

  2. The particle size distribution of carbon black is closely related to the type of carbon black. Choosing high-structure carbon black is easier to disperse, has higher conductivity and higher viscosity.

  3. Porosity of carbon black: The porosity of carbon black will affect the flow of electrons. Carbon black with high porosity generally has good electrical conductivity.

  4. Filling amount of carbon black: The amount of carbon black not only affects the antistatic performance of the product, but also greatly affects the comprehensive mechanical properties of the material. When the filling amount of carbon black is too small, a conductive channel cannot be formed, so the antistatic effect cannot be achieved. When the filling amount of carbon black is too large, the mechanical properties of the product will be reduced, and the heat sealing strength will also be greatly reduced.

  5. Carbon black pretreatment: Surface pretreatment of carbon black particles can effectively improve its dispersion and compatibility in the matrix resin, thereby improving the conductivity and comprehensive mechanical properties of the material system.

  Of course, the above factors are only to maximize the anti-static performance of conductive carbon black. After a long time, anti-static products will still age, but the service life of anti-static products added with conductive carbon black will be greatly improved.
