Carbon black, because of its black appearance and chemical composition, makes many people mistakenly believe that it is a dangerous product. However, in fact, carbon black is not a dangerous product, which is clearly stipulated in national documents, and the hazard category of carbon black is not included in it. So why is carbon black considered a non-hazardous product? In the export transportation of carbon black, is it classified as dangerous goods or ordinary goods? Is carbon black a hazardous chemical? This will be analyzed below.

  Carbon Black Hazard Assessment

Non-flammable and explosive: Carbon black is a product produced under conditions of insufficient air, so it is not flammable at room temperature. Carbon black will not burn even at higher temperatures.

Not explosive: The production process of carbon black will not cause explosive situations. Early carbon black was made by burning vegetable oil, pine branches, etc., and then collecting the black ash that condensed from the fire smoke. This process is not an explosive situation either.

Not strongly corrosive: Corrosive items usually require specific packaging, while carbon black is often packaged in kraft paper and does not fall into the category of corrosive items.

Non-toxic: The main component of carbon black is carbon, which is a stable and non-toxic element.

In summary, carbon black is not a dangerous product, let alone a hazardous chemical. However, carbon black is often used in rubber, ink, paint and other industries to have functions such as coloring, reinforcement, and conductivity. It should be noted that many carbon blacks exist in powder form. Once the packaging is damaged, it can easily lead to contamination, so be careful when handling carbon black.
