According to a report in the European Rubber Journal, Japan Denka Corporation (Denka) and Bangkok-based SCG Chemicals Corporation (SCGC) plan to jointly invest in the construction of an acetylene black plant in the Map Ta Phut area of Rayong Province in southern Thailand. production equipment.

According to a recent statement issued by the Japanese company, the investment in the factory is approximately US$400 million (contract 377 million euros), with an annual production capacity of 11,000 tons, mainly producing "Denka black" and "Denka black-Li" brands. Acetylene black. The two joint venture partners are expected to complete construction of the plant in the first half of 2026 and begin commercial operations in the second half of the year.

Nippon Denka added that once SCGC's management finalizes the investment plan, the joint venture called "Denka SCGC Advanced Materials" will be established by the end of 2023.

The company emphasizes that this acetylene carbon black not only has excellent conductivity, but also uses proprietary thermal decomposition and synthesis technology to make its acetylene black, trade name "Denka black-Li", its metal content, sulfur and other The extremely low impurity content makes it particularly suitable for use in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles and high-voltage transmission cables for offshore wind farms. In addition, according to the company, this carbon black can also be used to make other products such as conductive rubber for cables, belts, hoses, floors, and shoes. It is expected that the demand related to these applications will further expand in the future.
