The Shanxi Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment announced that the Shanxi Longxing Carbon-based New Material Circular Economy Industry Project, a new 400,000-ton carbon black project, will soon be approved by the EIA report. The project is planned to be carried out by Shanxi Longxing New Material Technology Development Co., Ltd., which released an environmental impact report on the project on the website of the People's Government of Lucheng District, Changzhi City in March this year.
According to the content of the environmental impact report, the main components of the project include six carbon black production lines, two carbon black tail gas boilers with a capacity of 110 tons per hour, two condensing steam turbines with a capacity of 35 MW, and raw material tank farms And public facilities and environmental protection facilities. The total investment of the project has reached 3.1 billion yuan, and the total area is about 304,000 square meters.
The project will be constructed in two phases. Two production lines with an annual output of 60,000 tons and one production line with an annual output of 80,000 tons will be built in each phase. The carbon black production capacity of these two phases of the project is allocated as follows: 1) The production capacity of carbon black for rubber is 320,000 tons, and the first and second phases are each 160,000 tons; 2) The production capacity of conductive carbon black is 20,000 tons, the first 10,000 tons in the first stage and the second stage; 3) The production capacity of carbon black for electrode materials is 10,000 tons, the first stage; 4) The production capacity of pigment carbon black is 20,000 tons, 10,000 tons in the first and second stages 5) The production capacity of special carbon black for silicon 69 is 30,000 tons, 10,000 tons in the first phase and 20,000 tons in the second phase.
In another carbon black-related development, the European Carbon Black Summit 2023 is scheduled for June 14-15 in Frankfurt, Germany, and the main focus of the conference will be addressing the supply shortage of carbon black facing the European market. With some experts predicting an increase in demand for carbon black in Europe and supply challenges, the European Carbon Black Summit will discuss how to improve industry sustainability, reshape supply chain advantages and improve the standardization of recycled carbon black.
In addition, a technical innovation related to carbon black has also received attention. Qingzhou Boao Carbon Black Co., Ltd.'s carbon black raw material oil filtration device has obtained a Chinese utility model patent authorization. The device adopts a unique design and provides a reliable filtration solution for the carbon black production process.
Finally, Orion Engineered Carbons has made a major environmental investment. They invested 60 million US dollars in the Bolger Carbon Black Plant in Texas, USA, and carried out technical upgrades to the combined heat and power system. The retrofit project successfully reduced the daily emissions of nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide by 23 tons, reducing the total emissions by 90%, further promoting the goal of environmental sustainability.
